Sumiko, U.S. importer of REL Acoustics, announces the launch of the company’s R-528SE, a Special Edition Sub-Bass System. Sharing the common configuration of an active front firing woofer and down firing passive radiator with the original R-528, the Special Edition differs in using the same custom design carbon fiber 12-inch active drive unit from the flagship Gibraltar G-1 Sub-Bass System. The 12-inch ABR passive radiator is also of a carbon fiber design. Sumiko claims this driver complement produces “the equivalent of a 16-inch driver in an even larger cabinet.”
Scheduled for launch in early March, 2013, each R-528SE is available in hand-rubbed gloss piano black lacquer with gloss white available on special order. To further distinguish the SE from the standard version, the top and side name badges as well as the massive support feet are coated in nickel-plated chrome for a sophisticated high-style appearance.
